Its a bit rough around the edges still while I finish off the text and such. You will find a gallery, featured items, news, rss, comment box (so leave me a message)

Soon there will be an online store with originals and high quality edition prints available.

They say devil is in the detail…

I just loved painting this. I aimed for a dramatic contrast between foreground and background, as if stepping out of the shade the light would dazzle you. Leave me a comment, enjoy.

I’m not satisfied with some of the detail, I feel I have been conservative with some of the greens so will go back and rework them.

Latest Painting

Why is it sometimes I find a painting takes a lot of work to get right, while others come together right away. I am pleased to show you this evenings progress.

Detail, I think that’s what it is. My biggest weakness with painting is worrying about how each individual detail looks an if its the right colour, the right size the right… you get the idea. With this work in progress I nearly fell into that trap. Ooo that bush is a bit big, hmm that tree looks too yellow. When I stop caring I find my work improves.

When I stopped caring about how the paint was hitting the canvas and just painted, this painting of emerged! I’m very pleased with it and I think it will build into something good.

The best intentions…

I had planned to have this finished today, but I didn’t bet on running out of Cadmium yellow! Can’t paint leaves with no yellow… I tried white and I tried some pale brown I had saved and kept, but it was no good. If anything I was damaging it… So stopped!

Here is the latest progress, off to the art shop tomorrow for more paint!

The next in my forest series

I am really enjoying painting forests and trees right now, its the fresh greens of the first springtime buds that I cant resist painting.

This is my very rough work in progress that I am working on. Where as my last works have been bright and full of light, this one is going to be darker but hopefully keep the same inviting quality. Thats the idea, lets see what happens!

Solitary

Here is a piece I haven’t shown before, called solitary.

I haven’t shown it before because I was never sure if I really liked it, but its a grower and Im pleased with the result. The colours are my idea of the glare of the sun on a bright day, everything becomes an extreme of light and shade.

Its painted on a 16×16 canvas in oils.
